These services are provided through small group outings led by trained staff to community locations such as recreation centers, libraries, cultural events, parks, and volunteer opportunities.e utilize a variety of inclusive, accessible, and engaging community locations to help individuals with developmental disabilities build social skills, gain independence, and participate meaningfully in the community. These include, local recreation centers (e.g., YMCA, community fitness centers)museums and art galleries, public parks, trails, botanic gardens, libraries, shopping malls, grocery stores, farmers markets, theaters, cultural centers, civic building ( city hall, post office, public events),cafes, restaurants, art studios craft workshops, sport facilities ( bowling alleys, basketball courts, etc.) faith based organization ( if desired by individual), job readiness programs, public transportation system ( for travel, training and mobility practice, community events ( fairs, festivals & farmers markets).
Core Goals & Focus Areas
- Skill Development: Helps individuals acquire, retain, or improve self-help, social, and adaptive skills through real-world community experiences .
- Community Integration & Participation: Supports participation in everyday activities such as volunteering, education classes, public transportation use, and recreational or social outings alongside non-disabled community members .Transportation assistance will also be provided to ensure participants can safely and consistently access community resources.
- Natural Supports & Relationships: Encourages building natural, non-paid relationships, coaching participants to establish interpersonal connections outside of the program .
- Person-Centered Design: Activities are tailored to individual interests and goals, based on the participant’s Service Plan & respect cultural background, language and preference.
- Setting Goals: Individualized goal planning to support each person’s interests, skills, and community participation needs. Promote community inclusion, reduce isolation, and empower individuals to participate fully and confidently in everyday life.
